The Work that Reconnects is a transformative educational approach that focuses on re-connecting with self, other, and the rest of the natural world. This work was developed by deep ecologist and Buddhist scholar, Joanna Macy, as a way of inviting participants to experience our interconnectedness in the web of life. Humans are a part of the natural world, but we often think and act as though we are separate. Embracing our interconnection with nature benefits both humans and the non-human world.

The Work That Reconnects is based on a spiral model, in which individuals reconnect with gratitude, by recognizing what they appreciate about the world; honour challenges, by admitting what they find difficult or fearful about the condition of the world; learn to see with new eyes, by recognizing other world views: and by commiting to going forth with intention. This work can enrich people, both personally and professionally, motivating them to play their part in creating a sustainable civilization.
